Etymology[ edit ] The term “celadon” for the pottery’s pale jade -green glaze was coined by European connoisseurs of the wares. D’Urfe, in turn, borrowed his character from Ovid ‘s Metamorphoses V. Another theory is that the term is a corruption of the name of Saladin Salah ad-Din , the Ayyubid Sultan, who in sent forty pieces of the ceramic to Nur ad-Din Zengi , Sultan of Syria. Most of the time, green was the desired colour, reminding the Chinese of jade , always the most valued material in Chinese culture. Celadon glazes can be produced in a variety of colors, including white, grey, blue and yellow, depending on several factors: The most famous and desired shades range from a very pale green to deep intense green, often meaning to mimic the green shades of jade. The main color effect is produced by iron oxide in the glaze recipe or clay body. Celadons are almost exclusively fired in a reducing atmosphere kiln as the chemical changes in the iron oxide which accompany depriving it of free oxygen are what produce the desired colors. As with most glazes, crazing a glaze defect can occur in the glaze and, if the characteristic is desirable, is referred to as “crackle” glaze. Greenwares are found in earthenware from the Shang dynasty onwards.

Nigerian Dating Scam – I’ve been there by Catherine Sheffield, UK I am a widow and after just over two years my friends told me to try internet dating. As I was in my 40’s I thought I would join a site for over plus dating which you pay a subscription for and I thought would be safe. I started chatting to a guy who said he was english born but his father was american.
He was working for the united nations as an orthapedic surgeon which I thought was a bit of a story but I went along with it. We were chatting for a few weeks and he suggested going onto messenger as it would save money on subscriptions. He told me things like he was also a widower and told me about his wife etc. This went on for 3 months. I gave him my mobile and he rang me each evening and we would chat for 5 or 10 mins at a cost to him not me.
He even rang me when I was on holiday in Spain. When I came back we chatted for another couple of weeks and then he asked me for some money so that he could home and we could be together.

Written by Bryan Dearsley While most people traveling to Croatia head directly for the country’s long, beautiful coastline, Zagreb, its capital, offers plenty of big-city attractions. Home to a quarter of the country’s population, Zagreb is the political and cultural center of Croatia and is a thriving, energetic inland city with some of the country’s best museums, restaurants, and shopping. Most of Zagreb’s major attractions are in the city center, which consists of two main sections: Gornji Grad lies on a high plateau and is home to Zagreb’s Cathedral and parliament building, while Donji Grad is a more modern area known for its world-class museums and the Croatian National Theatre.

October 15, at 8: I just wish I could name and shame these people asafbsh84 told me he had another 4 bowls and did me a deal for them at less each than the initial. They are all in perfect condition and being shallow bowls are very easy to display on stands and although they look like blue lustre in the photos, they are more a deep iridescent violet. I have not replaced the Noire Royale or many others yet, or my trays and only a couple of trefoil handled serving dishes…but I would REALLY like to thank people from as far as the UK, US, Europe and the wonderful pixie who have been so kind and encouraging.
I find most CW buyers and sellers to be very friendly. So thank you, too, for cheering me up when I lost everything, with your sense of style and humour. Although you will probably diss me for having started with Rouge Royale and still having a thing for the coffee sets! Though I have branched out and became quite eclectic, I could not resist a Rouge coffee set sold in separate sections, Melon design and only 5 cups…but I already had one so I do have 6 after all!

A retro-spective on Corning’s space-age glass ceramic material, Pyroceram cookware. I have avoided this subject, primarily because with Corning Ware, it is not an exact science. The Hub Machine began forming Corning Ware at the Martinsburg plant in , but there were other plants producing Corning Ware as well. Greencastle and Main Plant, just to name a couple.
These plants did not necessarily receive new molds for new shapes at the same time, nor would they changed their stamp format at the same time So all dates given have a little wiggle room. This mark would be revisited for the later Microwave Plus line in the early 90s and remained with the MR-Series until they were discontinued. There are myriad small modifications such as “for Range and Microwave” mark having or not having the cornflower

These are important in providing us with a type series of vessel forms, although broken vessels can be just as useful for this. Prehistoric and Roman pottery: Prehistoric pottery is handmade i. The clay from which it is made often contains pieces of burnt flint or other stone and the pottery appears very coarse. This crudeness is related to the function of the vessels, which had to withstand thermal shock when placed on a fire for cooking.
Fine vessels with incised and stamped decoration were also made. By the 1st century B.
